What is Cupping?

The cupping we use at Elements Acupuncture Inc. is a modern adaptation of an ancient cross-cultural healing therapy. We use small plastic cups under suction to stimulate the flow of blood, nerve, and energy. We also use the cups diagnostically to determine the levels of congestion (carbon dioxide, lactic acid); the darker the coloration, the more effective this treatment may be.

What is Gwa Sha?

Gwa Sha is a therapy that utilizes specialized tools to rub and scrape the skin. This technique can be used to release blocked acupuncture channels. Gwa Sha can feel like a deep massage, and may bring up varying shades of color in the skin. Gwa Sha is effective for releasing muscle tension and constriction.

What is Moxibustion?

moxibustion9
Moxibustion is a therapy that uses heat from burning specific herbs (mugwart). It may be used by itself to warm specific acupuncture points or it may be burned on the handle of needles (warming needle). There are many variations on this therapy and it is especially effective when there is a weakness (deficiency) in the body.

Why use Chinese herbs?

chinese_herbs

Herbs can be an excellent adjunct therapy to acupuncture treatments. They can be used to strengthen, build and tonify the body. They may also be used to clear excess problems like cold, excess heat or acute pain. Herbs can help to harmonize organ and meridian systems, as well as help to remove blockages and stagnation that can cause pain. We often suggest herbal formulas to build up internal strength so that you can receive the most benefit from your acupuncture treatments.
